ITGI (Interconnector Turkey Greece Italy) has successfully completed an eight month detailed Marine Survey for the offshore section of IGI Poseidon, the section of the ITGI pipeline connecting the Greek and Italian gas transportation systems, to bring Azeri gas from Shah Deniz II to European markets.
The €10 million study involved offshore and nearshore hydrographic, geophysical and geotechnical surveys, which have been completed by the leading independent firm of Fugro Geoconsulting.
Commenting on this important milestone for the ITGI project, DEPA Chairman, Harry Sachinis, said:
“The results of the survey have confirmed the technical feasibility of the IGI Poseidon pipeline route and confirmed its strength as a viable plan offering the fastest route for moving Azeri gas to Europe.”
“Everything is in place to deliver gas to European markets through ITGI, as soon as it’s available from Shah Deniz II. It’s good news for European energy security.”
