A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Region of Western Macedonia and DEPA Commerical SA, for the implementation of a plan for the development of green hydrogen infrastructure in Western Macedonia.
This cooperation is part of the better preparation of the application dossier of the proposal titled “White Dragon”, which will be submitted as an Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI), in the respective European program.
The Region of Western Macedonia was represented by the Regional Governor, Mr. George Kasapidis. and DEPA Commercial SA by the CEO Mr. Konstantinos Xifaras.
Furthermore, it is a fact that the transition to clean energy is the main axis around which the energy plans of the states for the next decades are developed. Even more advanced is the Europe Green Agreement, which now lays the groundwork for a climate-neutral Europe by 2050.
In this context, the Region of Western Macedonia seeks to evolve into a Center for Energy Developments, adapting its strategy to a sustainable and equitable transition, taking advantage of its comparative advantages. Among them, the dominant is the specialized human resources, well trained in electromechanical specialties, which can be oriented towards clean energy technologies.
The goal is for the Region of Western Macedonia to become the first green Region in Greece and one of the greenest Regions in Europe. This strategic choice can be a springboard for the productive reconstruction of the economy of the Region and the attraction of investments in new innovative green energy technologies and environmental technologies with the predominant one of green Hydrogen.
DEPA Commercial SA, utilizing the significant its know-how, undertakes the coordination of the interested bodies of Greece and other European countries, in order to achieve a common front and to submit a final file to the competent European and National bodies.
After the signing of the memorandum, the Regional Governor, Mr. George Kasapidis, stated: “The Region of Western Macedonia has been the energy center of the country for many decades and the local community was and remains inextricably linked to this sector. Therefore, we want to maintain this energy identity and play a leading role in energy developments and in the coming decades internationally as the first greenest Region in Greece and one of the greenest regions in Europe, so that our country can grow its dynamics and enter a new growth trajectory “.
The CEO of DEPA Mr. Xifaras underlined: “DEPA Commercial SA is already working from today for the next day of “clean” energy, launching not only its entry into RES, but also to reliable alternative sources, such as hydrogen. At the same time, we participate in all important relevant initiatives and actions. We are very proud to be able to help the Region in such an important project to achieve sustainable regional development. “
