{"id":19039,"date":"2025-04-03T11:59:34","date_gmt":"2025-04-03T08:59:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.depa.gr\/?p=19039"},"modified":"2026-08-05T17:21:42","modified_gmt":"2026-08-05T14:21:42","slug":"depa-commercial-s-a-greeces-first-compressed-biomethane-production-unit-is-ready-for-operation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.depa.gr\/en\/depa-commercial-s-a-greeces-first-compressed-biomethane-production-unit-is-ready-for-operation\/","title":{"rendered":"DEPA COMMERC\u0399AL S.A.: First Domestic Compressed Biomethane Production Unit Ready for Operation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Thursday, April 3, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The necessary checks of the biogas upgrading unit have been successfully completed, with the first quantities of biomethane\u2014containing more than 97% methane\u2014produced at the FARMA CHITAS facilities in Filippiada, marking the start of renewable fuel production in Greece.<\/p>\n<p>The unit is now ready to begin operation for the production of biomethane, its compression, and the distribution of bio-CNG to DEPA Commercial\u2019s \u00a0Fisikon stations to be used as vehicle fuel, offering a clean and cost-effective alternative for transportation. Biomethane will also be available for consumers located away from the natural gas network or for injection into the natural gas grid. This development represents a milestone for Greece\u2019s energy sector, introducing a new renewable fuel source into the national energy mix.<\/p>\n<p>The CEO of DEPA Commercial, Mr. Konstantinos Xifaras, commented:<br \/>\n<em>&#8220;The readiness of the first compressed biomethane production unit in Greece represents a significant step toward energy transition and the adoption of sustainable practices. During the project\u2019s implementation, several challenges had to be overcome, but the dedication and continuous support of all parties involved, combined with the excellent collaboration with FARMA CHITAS and the invaluable expertise of the French company PRODEVAL, supplier of the upgrading unit, contributed to its successful completion. Through this initiative, DEPA Commercial actively contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting the circular economy, utilizing organic waste to produce clean energy.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>From her side, Dr. Kyriaki Karakitsou, Director of Subsidiary Activities at DEPA, stated:<br \/>\n<em>&#8220;This pilot unit represents a significant technological and operational endeavor, allowing us to explore the possibilities of biomethane production and integration into the Greek natural gas market.
