The energy sector is f<\/span>acing\u00a0<\/span>significant<\/span>\u00a0challenges, both in Greece<\/span>\u00a0and in Europe. Market liberalization facilitates the\u00a0<\/span>penetration<\/span>\u00a0of new players and\u00a0<\/span>puts more\u00a0<\/span>pressure on companies to reduce their costs and diversify their products in order to cope with the new,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>increasingly<\/span>\u00a0competitive environment.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, the climate crisis is pushing states\u00a0<\/span>to accelerate\u00a0<\/span>their pace towards energy transition<\/span>. The European Green Agreement already lays the foundations for a climate-neutral Europe by 2050, while in Greece the new National Energy and Climate Plan\u00a0<\/span>brings forward<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>lignite phase-out\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>raises<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0targets for renewable energy production.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition<\/span>, the geopolitical instability\u00a0<\/span>in our region<\/span>\u00a0makes it imperative to\u00a0<\/span>build<\/span>\u00a0new infrastructure that will\u00a0<\/span>diversify<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>energy sources and supply routes and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>offer safe\u00a0<\/span>transport\u00a0<\/span>of<\/span>\u00a0natural gas from the rich deposits of the Eastern Med<\/span>iterranean to European markets.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this highly\u00a0<\/span>volatile<\/span>\u00a0environment, DEPA has\u00a0<\/span>successfully\u00a0<\/span>completed its transformation into\u00a0<\/span>a modern<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>integrated\u00a0<\/span>energy company, while ensuring work<\/span>place<\/span>\u00a0peace. At the same time, it has improved its competitiveness by promoting a flexible organizational structure capable of\u00a0<\/span>keeping up with<\/span>\u00a0developments in the industry<\/span>, whi<\/span>le at the same time<\/span>\u00a0being able to always\u00a0<\/span>meet<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0increasing market demands<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>through continuous<\/span>\u00a0u<\/span>pgrading the skills of its manpower<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore<\/span>, the company\u00a0<\/span>enters into\u00a0<\/span>flexible<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>outsourcing<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>partnerships that allow\u00a0<\/span>the diversification of its<\/span>\u00a0products and services,\u00a0<\/span>the expansion of<\/span>\u00a0its retail activities\u00a0<\/span>and of<\/span>\u00a0its international commercial presence, through targeted sales in t<\/span>he markets of Southeast Europe.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In\u00a0 the<\/span>\u00a0same spirit<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>DEPA<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>expands the use<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>of natural gas by<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>deploying<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Small Scale\u00a0<\/span>LNG smart technologies<\/span>\u00a0and promotes the use of LNG as a marine fu<\/span>el in the Eastern Mediterranean by<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>building an innovative\u00a0<\/span>carrier vessel<\/span>\u00a0that will supply the ports of the wider region<\/span>. Moreover, through<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>its nationwide network of CNG service stations (FISIKON)<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>DEPA\u00a0<\/span>makes<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>environmentally friendly and cheaper\u00a0<\/span>gas\u00a0<\/span>fueled transportation accessible<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>by more consumers in<\/span>\u00a0more\u00a0<\/span>regions of the country.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Thus, DEPA not only endured<\/span>\u00a0the pressures of the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>COVID<\/span>-19<\/span>\u00a0pandemic, but also managed to\u00a0<\/span>increase<\/span>\u00a0its<\/span>\u00a0market share,\u00a0<\/span>reduce prices and return<\/span>\u00a0tens of millions of euros to its customers, thanks to the successful renegotiation of<\/span>\u00a0its<\/span>\u00a0long-term supply contract<\/span>s with foreign energy giants.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking forward, the compan<\/span>y\u2019s business\u00a0<\/span>plan<\/span>\u00a0involves the implementation of\u00a0<\/span>substantial<\/span>\u00a0investments in wind and solar energy,\u00a0<\/span>with the objective<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to create<\/span>\u00a0a “green” portfolio of\u00a0<\/span>more<\/span>\u00a0than\u00a0<\/span>200 MW and\u00a0<\/span>invests in<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>promising alternative energy sources, suc<\/span>h as hydrogen.<\/span>\u00a0In fact, DEPA is a founding member of the European Alliance for\u00a0<\/span>Clean<\/span>\u00a0Hydrogen\u00a0<\/span>which is working\u00a0<\/span>on<\/span>\u00a0attract<\/span>ing<\/span>\u00a0investments in hydrogen and fuel cell technologies and is<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>also<\/span>\u00a0taking initiatives to create the first hydrogen refueling\u00a0<\/span>plant<\/span>\u00a0in our country.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Concurrently, the company is\u00a0<\/span>enhancing<\/span>\u00a0its invol<\/span>ve<\/span>ment<\/span>\u00a0in major international projects that\u00a0<\/span>strengthen Greece\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0energy security and\u00a0<\/span>transform\u00a0<\/span>it<\/span>\u00a0into<\/span>\u00a0a<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>natural gas<\/span>\u00a0hub throughout SE Europe. DEPA\u00a0<\/span>has assumed a leading role in\u00a0<\/span>the development of the\u00a0<\/span>EastMed<\/span>\u00a0pipeline that\u00a0<\/span>will transport gas from the Levantine fields to European markets, as well as\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>the new LNG\u00a0<\/span>FSRU\u00a0<\/span>Terminal\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>Alexandroupolis<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>– one of the largest energy infrastructures implemented in our country in recent decades, with<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a budget of\u00a0<\/span>more than\u00a0<\/span>\u20ac370 million<\/span>\u00a0which\u00a0<\/span>will distribute natural gas from all over the world, thus contributing\u00a0<\/span>decisively to the security of<\/span>\u00a0energy<\/span>\u00a0supply, not only of Greece, but also of Europe<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These two major projects will operate in\u00a0<\/span>full<\/span>\u00a0synergy with the\u00a0<\/span>Greece-Bulgaria<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Natural Gas Interconnector\u00a0<\/span>(IGB), another pipeline\u00a0<\/span>of strategic importance whose development<\/span>\u00a0DEPA accelerates\u00a0<\/span>both<\/span>\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0the Greek and the Bulgarian sect<\/span>ion<\/span>s<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Summing up,\u00a0<\/span>by taking\u00a0<\/span>initiative on all fronts, DEPA\u00a0<\/span>establishes<\/span>\u00a0its<\/span>\u00a0leading<\/span>\u00a0positi<\/span>on in the Greek energy market,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>through the\u00a0<\/span>improv<\/span>ement of<\/span>\u00a0its operations and expan<\/span>sion of<\/span>\u00a0its activities, while developing\u00a0<\/span>t<\/span>he infrastructure that\u00a0<\/span>will\u00a0<\/span>guarantee the energy security of our country and upgrade<\/span>\u00a0its geopolitical\u00a0<\/span>position<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
