Power Generation

Power Generation

Natural gas penetration in electricity production is accelerating, following the deregulation of electricity and natural gas markets. Combined-Cycle technology and Co-generation Systems are the optimal choices in energy consuming industries, both in terms of cost saving and environmental impact.

The  Public Power Corporation (PPC) was the first client of DEPA, supplying the St George Keratsini power plant in  June 1997. Today DEPA supplies also the combined-cycle plants of PPC in Lavrion and Komotini.

During the summer of 2004 the open-cycle power plant of 148 MWe (peak unit), owned by HERON THERMOELECTRIC SA. was linked to the National Natural Gas Transmission System.

Since May 2005, ELPEDISON POWER SA operates a combined cycle power plant of 390 MWe in Echedorou Municipality of Thessaloniki county.

In May 2008, a 334 –MW Power Co-generation station by Aluminium of Greece began its operation in Viotia.

In early 2010, began the operation of combined cycle power plant of "Heron II THERMOILEKTRIKOS STATION VIOTIA SA" with installed power 435 MWe,  with natural gas in the area of Thebes in Viotia.

In April 2010, the second combined cycle power plant of ELPEDISON POWER SA came into operation in the Industrial Area of Thisvi of Viotia, with installed power 421.6 MWe.

Furthermore in November 2010 the combined cycle power plant “PROTERGIA” was operational in the region of Agios Nikolaos, Viotia with installed power of 444 MWe.
